Need a new favorite T1D app? Podcast? Book? I got you covered. Here are my favorites for March 2021.
Favorite Book: Think Like a Pancreas
This is one of my all-time favorite books about managing Type 1 Diabetes (or really any type of diabetes for that matter). Gary Scheiner MS CDCES is an amazing advocate and educator in the diabetes community and provides awesome strategies and tips for the newly diagnosed, parents of children with diabetes, as well as those who've had diabetes for years. The book goes into how to match up your insulin needs to your ever changing lifestyle as well as information on the following:
Favorite Wearable: FlipBelt
If you are a tubed pump wearer or carry around a TON of diabetes technology like myself (cough cough PDM, pump, RileyLink...I'm looking at you) then go check out the FlipBelt. It was made for runners who want to keep their phone and keys on them during a run, but I find it works great for myself as a woman with diabetes.
The amount of times I find myself in a dress or wearing leggings without pockets is too many times to count! FlipBelt lets me keep everything tucked away securely. I can even fit some glucose tablets in there as well. Favorite App: Sugarmate![]()
For those of you in the US, GO GET THIS APP RIGHT NOW. I've always been so disappointed in the Dexcom app. Like thank you for the minimal information? Sugarmate fills in all the gaps I need when it comes to seeing my CGM data.
Favorite Podcast: The Sugar Mama's Podcast
While I'm not a mom of a T1D, I always find some of the best content and advise from those moms - including my own. Katie Roseborough has started a really lovely podcast that I've been bingeing as of late. The podcast features great guests, amazing stories, and awesome tips for parents of T1D's and the T1D's themselves.
My favorite episode so far was number 4: Expert Tips for Dealing with Insurance Companies. This is a MUST know for the T1D community as it affects every part of our care. Katie's guest, Jennifer, is a veteran of medical coding and billing, so you don't want to miss out on the easy to understand strategies for making sure you or your T1D loved one gets what they need.
